Brussels, 10th September 2008: Press release – European Youth Forum. Ahead of the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly starting on 16 September in New York , the European Youth Forum (YFJ) convened a coordination meeting with youth organisations, members of the Intern ational Coordination Meeting of Youth Organisations (ICMYO), and UN Youth Delegates from Europe . The meeting, which took place on 4-6 September, was hosted by the Finnish Youth Cooperation (Allianssi) in Helsinki.
The participants at the coordination meeting agreed on a set of key messages to be conveyed at the 63rd Session of the UN GA: and increasing the recognition of youth participation in the framework of the Millennium Development Goals will be one of the delegation’s main goals.
Moreover, the 3rd Committee of the UN GA will discuss relevant topics for young people and youth organisations. Following the conclusions of the Commission on Social Development in February 2008, member states will debate the principle of “decent work for all.��? Furthermore, the rights of children and disabled people will be among the main issues on the agenda. In December, in view of the forthcoming tenth anniversary of the Intern ational Year of Volunteers 2001, a report from the Secretary General and a resolution on volunteering will also be discussed.
