UN Youth Delegates Call for Inclusive Security Council Reform

UN Youth Delegates from across the globe have issued a joint letter to the United Nations Security Council urging concrete steps toward a more inclusive, effective, and future-oriented peace and security agenda.

Marking the tenth anniversary of the landmark Youth, Peace and Security Resolution 2250, we stress that young people are not merely affected by conflict—they are essential partners in prevention, mediation, and lasting peace.

The letter, signed by more than 65 youth delegates from 5 continents , sets out three key recommendations:

  • Permanent Youth Constituency to the Security Council: Establish a standing mechanism for youth consultation that reflects regional and thematic diversity.
  • Adoption and Implementation of Youth, Peace & Security National Action Plans: Commit to adequately funded, measurable strategies that integrate young people into peace and security efforts at national levels.
  • Tenth-Anniversary Review of Resolution 2250: Convene a dedicated Security Council session in December 2025 to evaluate progress and agree on next steps for the YPS agenda.

With these proposals, the Youth Delegates call on Member States to strengthen the Council’s legitimacy and embed meaningful youth participation at the heart of global decision-making.
